As we set sail into the promising waters of 2024, Yacht Carbon Offset is thrilled to share our aspirations and commitments for the upcoming year and how we aim to continue making a positive impact on the superyacht community. We invite you to explore our ambitious goals below, and we are delighted to have you alongside us on this journey towards a greener future.
Shifting Tides: Embracing Sustainability
One of the most inspiring trends we’re currently witnessing is the remarkable shift in mindset within the superyacht community towards sustainability. In recent years, sustainability has evolved from a niche concern into a central theme in our industry. Superyacht owners, captains, and industry professionals are increasingly recognising the importance of environmental responsibility and the imperative to reduce their carbon footprint. This awakening has triggered a surge in demand for carbon offsetting services and eco-friendly practices, which is a heartening sign of progress for 2024.
Project Update: More Credits for Two Caribbean Wind Projects
First and foremost, we are delighted to announce the availability of more credits in the two Caribbean Wind Projects that we support: Vader Piet (Vader P) Wind Power Project in Aruba and Larimar Wind Project in the Dominican Republic.
Vader P is the inaugural wind park on the beautiful Island of Aruba, nestled in the Southern Caribbean Sea. This project marks a significant stride towards sustainable energy in the region. The wind park harnesses the island’s wind resources and diversifies the country’s electricity generation away from fossil fuels, thereby reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Between December 2009 and April 2022, this project achieved a total reduction of 658,955 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions. Furthermore, it has brought about positive social and economic impacts, including increased job opportunities, economic growth, and local investment. Larimar Wind Project is situated on the picturesque Caribbean coast of the Dominican Republic, settled in the Barahona Province. The project comprises 29 Vestas wind turbines, each with a capacity of 3.3 – 3.45MW. Since its operational debut in August 2016, it has been a beacon of sustainability, estimated to save a substantial 177 thousand tonnes of CO2e emissions annually. Beyond its eco-friendly credentials, Larimar Wind Project has woven itself into the local community’s fabric, funding power for irrigation pumps, facilitating ‘Income Generation’ training schemes, and passionately promoting health and sports initiatives, all contributing to a stronger and healthier community. In 2024, as the demand for our services continues to grow, we eagerly anticipate forming partnerships with additional renewable energy and coastal marine projects. Stay tuned for updates as we embark on these exciting developments.
