Yacht Carbon Offset has been carbon offsetting greenhouse gas emissions associated with the Antigua Charter Yacht Meeting (AYCM) since 2009. We calculate and counteract an emissions allowance relating to the show’s core activities, helping AYCM to mitigate a meaningful portion of its environmental impact.
AYCM’s emission allowance relates to various show activities, comprising:
Activities of Exhibiting Yachts
- Fuel consumption
- Onboard generator use
- Tender and Toy activity
Show Transport Fuel Consumption
- Shuttle buses
- Water taxis
The emission allowance for the upcoming 2024 show is 50 tonnes CO2e. This is approximately the same volume of gas required to fill 12 hot air balloons, and is equivalent to the quantity of greenhouse gases emitted by burning 25 barrels of oil.
The AYCM has counteracted the impact of these emissions through their carbon offsetting action by supporting the Larimar Wind Power Project, located in the Dominican Republic. By harnessing the power of the wind to generate clean electricity, the Larimar Wind Power Project has reduced the Dominican Republic’s reliance on fossil fuels and prevented thousands of tonnes of CO2e from being emitted annually. We are proud to have been able to support the Antigua Charter Yacht Meeting with their environmental action.
